A journey through history

Anyone who wants to create something new must know where he or she comes from.
Only those who know their history, their origins and their roots can keep tradition alive, explore new paths and move with the times – without blindly following trends.

We, the Stangl family, look back on over 450 years of family history. We have been managing the estate in Neufarn since 1827 – now in the sixth generation. What once began as a small estate is now a nationally renowned hotel near Munich, appreciated for its Bavarian hospitality, its distinctive cuisine, and a unique sense of atmosphere.

Stangl - The Chronicle

Thankfully, a lot has changed over the past 200 years. After all, those who don’t move with the times are left behind. Each generation has left its mark: from the expansion of the historic inn into today's hotel complex, to the careful restoration of our Art Nouveau rooms, to the modern redesign of our guest rooms, meeting rooms, and summer house.

At Gutsgasthof Stangl, it feels like a journey back in time. Yet one thing has remained unchanged over the decades: genuine hospitality and the commitment to offering our guests a piece of Upper Bavarian home – with style, soul, and heartfelt dedication.

Today, many people are talking about a return to regionality and tradition, something our long-time regulars have always taken for granted. They have always known nothing else. And that's precisely what makes our establishment so special.

The Stangl Family

The story of the Stangl family as innkeepers in Neufarn begins in 1827. Since then, six generations have shaped the property, developed the tradition, and have kept the spirit of the house alive with passion and dedication.
The only constant in almost two centuries?
The change.
Courage to embrace new challenges.
And humility toward the past – and toward what the future may hold.

Bärbel Fauth-Stangl is the fifth generation to lead the long-established family business.
She has shaped the Stangl for over 40 years with heart, style, and a special sensitivity for all her guests' needs. The expansion into a hotel in 1988, as well as countless loving details throughout the hotel, bear her signature.

"Hospitality isn't about polished advertising copy. It's about a passion for everything, through thick and thin. I'm grateful and happy to be able to share this passion with the Stangl team. That's why, during asparagus season, I'm tasting the hollandaise, putting on my wellies and going down to the cellar with the plumber because there's a leak, helping out in the rooms when there's a snag with changing the sheets, and grabbing a tray so that even in the biggest rush, guests can quickly get their wheat beer. Of course, the best thing is when I can serve my guests, you, at the bar in my finest attire. Then I'm happy to raise a glass with you. But I always keep one ear to the ground, making sure everything is running smoothly. That's simply my commitment as a hostess."

Her son Ludwig Fauth has been at her side for almost ten years, representing the sixth generation. – with fresh ideas, organizational talent, and a sense of the big picture. Today, mother and son jointly steer the ship – with experience, sensitivity, and an understanding of their guests.

"For me, a hotel is much more than a place to stay, eat, and drink—it's a vibrant place of togetherness. Our guests, our employees, and our long-standing partners and suppliers are all part of this special interaction. Only when everyone pulls together can we create a place that feels familiar—yet always surprises."
